How did English for Yoga started?

I would like to share a little bit about the beginnings of this project

It was 2019, I was pregnant with my second baby, working long hours at an English institute and in a Yoga school, not very happy with any of those jobs for many different reasons: the paying was not good, I didn’t resonate with the philosophy of the workplaces, etc.

A Yoga teacher who lives in my town asked me for English classes that could prepare him to teach Yoga to foreigners. I was so enthusiastic about it!

I started creating activities for him to practice, analysing which was the necessary vocabulary, bringing back my experiences taking and teaching Yoga classes in English.

Even though it all sounded very weird, I knew it had a lot of potential. So I created a “booklet” (this is the old school word for e-book) and I decided to offer an “English for Yoga” course in Mar del Plata. Six people signed up for the course and it was an amazing experience: created and delivered by myself.

Then the pandemics, the quarantine and my son arrived so for a few months I couldn’t do much: I was shocked and post partum. But once I gained strength I decided to try this “zoom thing” that everyone was talking about.

So I created an online version of the course and so far I have delivered more than 10 of those! Of course I have made a lot of changes to the contents, I have tried different teaching strategies and I have also created other educational offers such as workshops, seminars, conversation classes, one on one sessions.

Let me tell you it was very difficult for me to focus on one thing, historically I was the kind of person who loves doing a million different things. Maybe the fact that this project is actually a mix of 2 things  (English and Yoga) helps :)

and what comes next?

I would like to offer my course twice a year as well as continue with the conversation classes (which are an amazing option to continue learning after the course and to interact with colleagues).

I would also love to offer in person seminars in different locations and online!

I have also started working for an international Yoga school and I’m sure that experience will very extremely nurturing for this project!

Thanks for reading! I hope this story inspires you to create and believe in your own projects!

Sending you lots of love,

Amalia
