Trust your intuition

Nowadays intuition is considered something magical, witchy, almost like a superpower. But if we stand on the psychological perspective that Yoga offers, intuition is nothing but smrtti, memory. According to Yoga, everything we perceive with our sense organs, everything we see, hear, taste, touch and smell, creates impressions in our citta, mind. Those impressions are called samskaras and if we really accept the whole package of  beliefs that Yoga has to offer, we don’t only hold samskaras from this life but also from previous lives.

Now, let’s just limit ourselves to this life because I don’t know much about the previous ones. Think of all the times you have heard people speaking in English: music, series, movies, school, institute, tourists, etc. Think of all the times you have read something written in English: subtitles, articles, ingredients, instagram posts, instructions from a manual, etc.

All those perceptions have created samskaras in you (mental impressions), and they are there even if you didn’t even notice you were absorbing English. All of those impressions are stored in your memory, smrtti, which is one of the functions of your mind.

It’s very common that when someone starts taking English classes they remember things they had no idea that they knew. And it’s also very common that when students don’t know which word to use, they suddenly come up with the right word!

So, is this magic? No. I’m sorry, I love magic but in this case, I have to say it’s not.

It’s your intuition, made of all the previous impressions of this language you are learning.

Next time you don’t know a word or you are doubting between using “in” or “at” I recommend you to turn to your intuition and try to find the answer there.

It might be right.

And if it’s not, don’t get frustrated, it’s also something that needs to be practiced.

If you want to get more English samskaras, study with me!

Lots of love,

Amalia
