What would you tell yourself as a yoga beginner?

After reflecting on that, I asked myself: what would I tell myself as someone who is starting to study English for Yoga?

All my learning has been pretty intuitive, I had no guidelines to follow. I basically started learning by taking Yoga classes in English and reading blogs about Yoga. But that was me in very particular life circumstances: I was living in another country, I had another job, I didn’t have children.

My learning took me many years (and it’s not finished, of course) and I didn’t have anyone to ask questions to or receive feedback from.

So my advice for someone who is starting to study English for Yoga is the following:

• take as many Yoga classes as you can in English

• look for a variety of accents (native and non-native)

• start practicing slow paced classes (asana, pranayama, meditation). after some time, start practicing what you would like to teach

• it’s ok if you don’t understand everything!

• find a teacher who can help you to organize your learning and give you feedback!

I work everyday to be, as much as possible, that teacher that can help you learning English for Yoga.

Every time I learn a new word or discover a nice expression to describe an asana, I think: oh, I will share this with my community: English for Yoga.
